Larson Manta Project

Sunday I picked up (what I think is) a 1980 Larson Manta with a mid-60's vintage Mercury 100 hp six banger. It's a 15 ft. fiberglass runabout, and it looks like it's been run about quite a bit. The gelcoat is pitted and cracked and the keel looks like it's had some fairly serious repair. The good news is it floats and runs - so the boys will finally have a fishing boat. We'll see how much of the work on it this summer is refresh versus restore, either way, it looks like we'll have some fun.

Here we are putting a little elbow into the Bronc. Took about two hours (with the boys' help) to strip it down to its parts. That's a Tecumseh HM80 331 cc motor. Have no idea yet if it'll make good sounds and torque.  Just drained the oil and am going to crack open the head to see if it's worth going on. If so, we'll get a carb kit, muffler (or at least a spark arrester) and new torque converter.

Super Bronc Project

Super Bronc Project

Last weekend I dug out a relic of my youth. When I was about 12 or so I ordered a Heald minibike kit. The Super Bronc VT8. It came in boxes and my dad and I put it together. It provided many (mostly) trouble free years of tearing around. So in the back of one of my dad's barns my four-year old son spots the bike and there is no way we aren't trailering it home.
