"the art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook"

"Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing."

Making of Best Buy Connect and Twelpforce

Reblogged from BestBuy Apps blog today:

Inspired by Ben Hedrington’s ConnectTweet, the concept was simple; Connect BlueShirts directly with customers via twitter. In less than two months, Enomaly developed a Python application on Google App Engine to syndicate tweets from Best Buy employees and rebroadcast them. Thereby allowing customers to ask questions via twitter (@twelpforce) and have the answer crowdsourced to a vast network of Best Buy employees who are participating in the service. Now the answer to “looking for a Helmet Cam I can use for snowboarding and road trips” is only a tweet away.bestbuyapps.com, Best Buy Apps, Jul 2009

Signal Strength

I gave this presentation at Conclave 2009, a conference for radio folks. This was different than most presentations I do because of my enduring fondness for radio - it was personal.

Below the slideshow you will find the script that I read from.

Computer World Presentation

Steve Bendt and I are going to be presenting at the Computer World’s Premier IT Leaders Conference in the beginning of March. The presentation is called "Fight Club. How we built a social network at Best Buy and how it built us. Using DYI software to have fun, piss people off and solve business problems." Nice huh? Steve said I must have been angry when I came up with the title but I think it'll actually be an interesting look at user oriented app design. Here's our final slides with our presentation notes attached. Please post any comments, questions or critiques.
